Chennai Kings wins 8 matches out of 14 they played in the round-robin and secured its position for the final match.

However, they lost the final to Rajasthan Royals by 3 wickets.

In 2009 CSK reached to the semi-final after securing 2nd position in round-robin but their hope of entering the final for the second time was crushed by Royal Challengers Bangalore who beat them in the semi-final by 6 wickets.

At the initial stage of IPL 2010 season, Chennai struggled a lot and wins only 2 matches out of 7 they played. However, in the second half of the season, Super Kings managed to win 5 more matches and finished with the same number of points as three other teams with two semi-final spots at stake. Because of the better run rate among other three teams who finished at 14 points, CSK got the 3rd place on the point table.

The Super Kings faced the tournament favorites Mumbai Indians at their home ground in the final and beat MI by 22 runs and lift the trophy.

Since two new teams were added in the 2011 season, the IPL Governing Council declared that each franchise could retain a maximum of four players of their squad. So Chennai Super Kings retained his core player – captain MS Dhoni, vice-captain Suresh Raina, all-rounder Albie Morkel, and Murali Vijay.

Same as the previous season CSK struggled at the initial stage but by end of the group game Chennai finished at second and registered a spot in the knockout stage.

In the final, they faced Royal Challengers Bangalore and beat them by 58 runs and become the first team to win the second consecutive title in the IPL.

After the slow start in 2012, Super Kings reached to final but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets.

In 2013 they lost the final to Mumbai Indians by 23 runs and in 2014 they lost the qualifier match against Kings XI Punjab by 24 runs and to Mumbai Indians in 2015 in the final match.

CSK was banned for two years – 2016 and 2017 It happens because of the inappropriate betting and fictitious bid was made, violating BCCI norms.

Super Kings returned to the league in 2018, winning the title in the comeback season, its third overall to tie Mumbai Indians for the record for most IPL title wins.

Super Kings also become the first team to defeat an opposing team four times in a single season.
